Chief Minister Raman Singh has appealed to the people of the State to go for birth-death registration and receive the certificates necessarily.
He said that birth-death registrations were done for free. In case, past incidents of birth/death could not be registered on time, then one may get the registration done by paying nominal late fee.
The Chhattisgarh Government has appointed CEO of Janpad Panchayats in rural areas, Chief Municipal Officers of urban bodies, authorised officials and in-charge officials of Government Hospitals with capacity of 30-bed or more as Registrar under Civil Registration System.
Singh said that birth certificate is the first identity proof of a newly born, which has its own importance in issuance of passport, addition of name in ration cards etc. The document is also important for availing benefits of Government facilities.
Moreover, death certificate is a necessary legal document for heirs of the deceased for claiming paternal property, insurance claim etc, he said.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people, panch-sarpanch, elected officials and members of Jila panchayats and Janpad panchayats, elected officials of urban bodies and corporators, for their cooperation in the registration work.
Singh said that birth of a baby was an occasion of celebration in the family, while sudden death of a family member was extremely sad and painful. But despite the overwhelming emotions, one should necessarily get the registration of birth/death done on time and receive the certificates for the same as it will prove beneficial for the family as well as the country.
He further said that usually in rural areas, people show least interest in registration of birth/death c onsidering it to be unnecessary. However, registration of birth/death is as important as the various customary rituals performed during such occasions.
Singh said that people of Chhattisgarh could make important contribution in development of the State by getting the birth/death registrations done on time. Reason being, birth-death registration records serve as the basis for government to formulate public welfare and development schemes.
The Chief Minister has appealed people to take a pledge that they will report to the Registrar concerned about birth-death incidents taking place in their family, locality, village and ward.
Under Civil Registration System, registration of each birth/death incident in state is compulsory. Due to lack of proper registration and reporting, Chhattisgarh’s position in the country is not good enough.
Hence, people of State should come forward to report such incidents on time and make collective efforts to take Chhattisgarh to the top position in the country. Contribution of each individual is important.
According to the information received from Raipur office of the Directorate of Census, the Directorate and the State government’s Directorate of Finance and Statistics have already provided training of birth-death registration to all the registrars of Chhattisgarh.
