The State Government is likely to present a Birla Global University Bill in the coming monsoon session of the Assembly. The proposed university, envisioned as a world-class institution, is to come up at Gothpatna on the outskirts of the State capital city where the Government has already leased out 30 acres of land.
Earlier in the month of April this year, a screening committee of the Government headed by Chief Secretary BK Patnaik had given its nod for the university. The BK Birla-run Birla Academy of Art & Culture, which has proposed the university, has already opened
the Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) in the city. The university project cost has been estimated at `86 crore, of which `70 crore has already been invested.
In the first phase, the university would have eight schools — school of management, school of development & sustainability, school of communication, school of law, school of social science & humanities, school of architecture & planning, school of tribal studies and school of doctoral studies.
Four new schools are to be added in the second phase —school of design school of engineering & technology, school of international affairs and Centre of Odisha art & culture. The university would have an intake capacity of 995. The faculties of the university would include 79 teaching staff, 55 non-teaching employees and 25 visiting teachers. The faculty-student ratio has been pegged at 1:10.
