The authorities of the GM University at Sambalpur have launched the biometric attendance system to keep correct record of the students attending classes.
As per the decision of the State Government, no students can appear at the final exam unless he attended 75 per cent classes in each semester. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Atanu Kumar Pati inaugurated the biometric system in the university campus.
Before beginning and after end of each class, the students would have to use the machine to register their attendance, said Dr Pati. But this would not be applicable for the practical classes, he said.
“After end of the month, the attendance report of the students will be sent to their parents through SMS so that they can also know about their children,” he said.
Those who have less than 75 per cent attendance would be warned earlier so that they can make up in subsequent classes, he said.
Fifty-five biometric machines have been installed in different places of the campus for the purpose, informed Deputy Registrar Dr Uma Charan Pati.
