The 83rd Annual Meeting of the Society of Biological Chemists of India (SBCI) and a symposium on “Evolution: Molecules to life” were held at the KIIT University here from December 18 to 21, being jointly organised by the KIIT University, the Institute of life Sciences (IlS) and the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER). This was held for the first time in Odisha after 83 years of inception of the SBCI.

The conference had an array of distinguished speakers and eminent scientists like Sir Walter Bodmer, University of Oxford, UK; Prof Sameer K Bhramachari, former DG, CSIR; Prof P Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore; Prof Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Calcutta University and president of 83rd SBCI and Dr Sateesh C Raghavan, IISc, Bangalore. The conference attracted over 600 delegates who showcased their research in the form of eminent lectures and poster sessions. A key feature of the meeting was ‘translational research’, where the speakers discussed how to translate the research findings into applications. This created an opportunity for the crosstalk between academia and industry.
