The Ravenshaw Bikash Abhijan on Monday urged Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal not to give his assent to the Odisha University (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and to revalidate the Ravenshaw University Act. 2005.

Abhijan members placed these demands through a Press conference here. “Applying its dictatorship, the State Government has got the University (Amendment) Bill passed in the State Assembly despite steep protests from educationists, intellectuals, students and teachers communities. The Governor should return the Bill without signing it,” demanded Abhijan president Chittaranjan Mohanty, Satya Ray, Prashant Das, Prashant Panda, Dolly Das, Dr Bishwajit, Khageshwar Sethi and secretary Siddhartha Rath.

The alleged that proposals of abolition of Senate, appointment of teachers and nonteaching staffs, Government interference in selection of Vice-Chancellors and squeezing the powers of the Chancellor of Universities have been made only in the interest of the ruling party and bureaucrats.

They too severely slammed the Government for abolishing the Ravenshaw University Act. “The Ravenshaw University is an historic higher education institute of the State.

Ravenshaw had build legendaries like Gopabandhu Das, Nabakrushna Choudhruy and Harekrushna Mahtab and was a work field of noted teachers like Yogesh Chandra Ray Bidyanidhi, Pranakrushna Parija and Shyamacharan Tripathy.

During its 150 years of existence, the Ravenshaw has played a unique role in development of the State’s education sector. Hence, running this university by a special Act is nothing but an honour to the State’s heritage aspect,” they argued.
