Bid to sell LIC to be protested: Staff union

A clear-cut conspiracy is going on against LIC to promote the private ones and make them profit-making at the latter's cost.

"A bankrupt Government at the Centre is making all-out efforts to sell LIC or make it defunct. But employees and conscious citizens will protest it tooth and nail, warned president of the LIC Employees’ Union Amanulla Khan at Sambalpur in a two-day eastern zone conference.

“LIC apart, there are 23 insurance companies functioning all over the country in private sectors. But the share of LIC in the market is 86 per cent, the highest one that almost grabs the entire insurance business. Hence, to benefit the private companies, the Central Government is hatching a conspiracy which is an open secret now,” alleged Khan.

Khan further said that the Government  has imposed tax on LIC premiums. It is also trying to hand over  LIC to the corporate houses. All these apart, to meet the fiscal deficit, sale of Indian railways and other sectors are also on cards. “But we will never let it be done,” he said.

He further informed that by end of November, the union will hold protest meeting in eight zonal headquarters. Further by January 8, 2020, 10 different trade unions of the country will hold meeting to protest such anti populace and anti national activities, he said.

“Time has come that we should jointly protest every effort that goes against the federal structure.  Otherwise, the future of the nation will be bleak,” warned other speakers including V Ramesh, general secretary of the union.

Hundreds of insurance employees from the eastern India took part in the conference and shared their views to protect PSUs’ privatisation.
