Rourkela Superintendent of Police suspended one women police constable and a home guard from service on Friday, allegedly for demanding ransom from a restaurant owner.
On a FIR of the restaurant owner, the accused constable, her husband and a home guard were arrested by the Brahamani Tarang police on Thursday evening, allegedly for threatening the road side restaurant owner to close down his restaurant or oblige to their demand of a fixed monthly sum of money.
Sources said Jasmit Singh, owner of a roadside dhaba of Kuanrmunda area on the outskirts of Rourkela, had lodged a complaint alleging that constable Anita Dungdhun, who has been posted in PCR van, had demanded monthly bati from him. He stated that Dungdhun had reportedly threatened him to close the dhaba, if he did not oblige. Her husband Temba lakra and home guard Susanta Das, who is also attached with PCR van, also allegedly had personally reached at the restaurant and had threatened Jasmit.
Acting on the FIR, Brahamani Tarang police had registered a case and arrested the trio. "Besides forwarding all three persons, Anita Dungdung has been placed under suspension and home guard Susanta Das has been dismissed from service," said Rourkela SP Uma Shankar Das.
