Former Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai was honoured with doctorate by the USA-based Victoria Global University in New Delhi on September 18 for his dedicated social work.
He was awarded with a certificate by Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Ramdas Athawale.
Due to Tarai’s selfless efforts, farmers, backward caste and poor people have got justice and CSR policy was implemented for people of industrial belts of Jagatsinghpur district. Due to his strong protest, over 30,000 people who had lost land due to the Paradip Oil Refinery project got Rs 19 crore, much more than decided by the Government. He rehabilitated 143 families with all facilities.
During 2009-10, the Pradeep Phosphates acquired 27,000 acre of land. Tarai fought for legitimate costs of the land, for which farmers got their justified dues. Similarly, he fought for justice for people during land acquisition of IFFCO and ESSAR companies.
When he was MP, Tarai discussed with the then Minister of Railways Adhir Ranjan Choudhury for provision of train facilities between Paradip and Kolkata.
