Bhupinder surfaces, says not quitting Cong

Ending days of uncertainties over his whereabouts, Congress leader and leader of the Opposition in the State legislative Assembly Bhupinder Singh was seen in the flesh here on Monday. However, he made it clear that he has not resigned from the party.

“I was sick and undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The hospital authorities, while admitting me, had put a condition that I would not use a mobile phone nor would my family members be present at the hospital,” the leader of the Opposition said.

“I was pained to know the speculation in the media about my resignation. I want to make it clear that I have neither resigned from the Congress nor have any intention of doing so,” Singh said.

Singh said he had not gone into hiding and was seriously ill. “My WBC count had shot up to 24,000 and there was an infection too, which made my condition serious,” he said. Even though he made these clarifications, a few statements reportedly made by his party colleagues in these days have still kept political analysts in the dark.

Titilagarh MlA Surendra Singh Bhoi had said that the leader of the Opposition telephoned him on Shivaratri and informed him that he would quit the party soon.

Similarly, Kantabanji MlA Santoshsingh Saluja had told the media that Singh told him about his resentments towards the party earlier.
