Even though family members of Congress leader and leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh made it clear that he is ailing and the doctors have advised him rest for two to three days, fear of his resignation from the party has worried a couple of party leaders in the State.
Singh remained incommunicado for the third consecutive day on Saturday. In a Press release, former PCC president Niranjan Patnaik requested Singh not to quit the party.
“The Congress is now witnessing ups and downs. Hence, the leaders should be united to strengthen it,” Patnaik opined. Patnaik expected that Singh would provide a strong leadership to the Congress in future. Another party leader, Chiranjib Biswal, also appealed to Singh not to take the Congress-quit decision. On the other hand, Kalahandi MP Bhakta Das, with whom Singh is at loggerheads, clarified that he has no disagreement with Singh and rather has always helped in his work.
Sources said former Minister Prakash Debata went to Singh’s residence to meet him but returned disappointed. Meanwhile, sources said Singh has already talked to the party high command regarding what he deserves in the party.
