Prasanna Kumar Panda, Junior Clerk, Executive Engineer office, PH Division-II, Bhubaneswar, was arrested for receiving bribe of `8,000 to process file to release the security deposit and EOT to a contractor.
Basing on the report of the complainant Biswajit Samantaray of Adimata Colony here, a trap was laid on Saturday and Panda was caught red-handed.
Samantaray, who is a contractor by profession, had executed PH works amounting to `30,00,000 under PH Division-II, Bhubaneswar. Prior to execution of the works, he had deposited a sum of `1,50,000 towards security and EOT in the office of PH Division-II, Bhubaneswar.
On completion of the work, he applied to the Executive Engineer to release the amount and repeatedly requested Junior Clerk Panda to process the file. Panda who was dealing the file demanded `8,000 as bribe to expedite the matter.
In another case, Usha Kiro, Staff Nurse, Public Health Centre, Sohela, in Bargarh district was arrested for demanding and receiving `3,000 from one Chatura Bariha of Sana Sahajbahal village in Gaisilet to discharge his wife Shanti Bariha from the hospital, who was admitted in the PHC on November 7 for removal of uterus.
Shanti’s operation was conducted on November 16. Complainant Chatura repeatedly requested the accused to discharge his wife from the PHC, but she demanded the bribe.
Accordingly, a trap was laid on Saturday and Kiro was caught red handed in the Sister’s staff room in the Sohela PHC.
