The State Government has accorded university status to the Bhawanipatna Autonomous College by altering the territorial jurisdiction of the Sambalpur University under the provisions of the Odisha Universities Act.
The new university has been named as Kalahandi University, official sources said. It would offer PG courses from the next academic session of 2019-20.
Notably, the State Government had also on Saturday accorded university status to the Rajendra Autonomous College of Balangir.
