Bhasa Sammilani rues Govt apathy

The Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani which has been spearheading a campaign for the implementation of the Orissa Official language Act-1954 in the State for last four years lamented apathy of the Government.

It said that though the Government formed a five-member Ministerial committee for amending the Act and pass it in the Assembly a year ago, nothing of the sort happened even as four Sessions of the Assembly have already been conducted.

The Sammilani said the Ministerial committee had decided on April 25 that the law Department will prepare a proposal on the matter and send it to the Cabinet for approval before presenting it in the Assembly but it did not happen. On May 2, Sammilani president and BJD Rajya Sabha MP Baishnab Charan Parida had met the members of the committee and urged them to expedite the matter whereupon they all had assured to do the needful. But the proposal was not presented in the current Session of the Assembly.

Parida demanded that keeping in view the concern of the four crore Odias, the Government must pass the Act in the current Session of the House after making necessary amendment in it.
