Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das on Saturday came down heavily on the State Government for covering up the Mamita Meher murder case.
Addressing a Press conference at the Congress Bhawan here, he said that from the very beginning, the Congress has been demanding an inquiry into the case by an Orissa High Court sitting judge. Now, questions arise on the way on the Balangir SP and the DIG have conducted the inquiry.
He demanded that Dibya Shankar Mishra be dropped from the Ministry for the sake of a fair inquiry.
Though Govinda Sahu is the main accused, he is not only one; a group of people might be involved in the case.
Putting a detailed travel history of Minister Mishra, Das asked that though the incident happened on October 8, why the Minister remained silent till October 19 though the area of the crime comes under his constituency.
Das demanded the detailed phone call records of the Minister, Govinda, his PA, Minister’s political acquaintances and close coterie. As the BJP has also been raising the issue, the Central Government must inquire into the phone records of Minister and his close associates, he said.
“We had not raised the Minister’s involvement in this case; rather, Mamita’s father first indicated the Minister’s involvement and frequent visit to the concerned school,” he pointed out. Das accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of remaining silent on the issue. “Is anybody more powerful than the Minister involved in the case or is it anything to do with Rs 7,000-crore corruption in the Energy Department or with the clandestine deal with Tata power?’ Das asked.
