Socialist organisation Manav Adhikar Surakshya Manch paid tributes to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru at Giri Road here on Tuesday. On February 14, 1931, these great freedom warriors were sentenced to death by hanging for subversive activities.
The sentence triggered a stir among the youth and students who joined the freedom movement in large numbers. Rattled by the popularity and patriotism of the trio, though they sentenced to be hanged on March 24, 1931 the British hanged them at lahore jail on March 23. The martyrs wanted to free India from the clutches of imperialist forces and establish a new social order, said the speakers.
However, in the current scenario when the youth are immersed in cricket and entertainment, as part of capitalist policy the country’s assets are being sold to foreign companies at dirt-cheap prices. Bhagat Singh, whose popular slogan was Inquilab Zindabad had the belief that the farmers, youth and workers can usher in a change, said the speakers. Suryakant Patra, Gouri Shankar Mohanty , Bansidhar Bhuyan and Sushant Kumar Sabat were present among others.
