A woman Sanskrit teacher at Khaparpada village under the Dhusuri police limits in Dhamnagar block in Bhadrak district on Monday sustained critical injuries when she was stabbed by a youth with a knife.
Sources said victim Diptimanjari Panda was on her way to join duty at her nearby school when she was attacked by the youth.
The youth identified as Manas Ranjan Panigrahi stopped Diptimanjari and
her sister, who is also a teacher, when they were going by a scooty.
Panigrahi by stopping the duo proposed love to Diptimanjari.
On her refusal, he stabbed her with a knife. After stabbing her, Panigrahi climbed atop a nearby electric transformer to commit suicide, but luckily there was no power supply at that time, otherwise it could have proved fatal.
locals caught hold of Panigrahi and tied him to an electric pole and thrashed him heavily.
Diptimanjari has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here in a critical condition.
Panigrahi, who was rescued by the police from the electric transformer, has
also been sent to the same hospital as he sustained injuries after being thrashed by villagers.
