A student of a private ITI in Bhadrak district allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison on Friday soon after returning from his college.
The family members alleged that he might have attempted the extreme step after being subjected to ragging at the college.
“My brother was studying in the private ITI. Some students have abused him and he consumed poison without informing anybody at home,” alleged the student’s brother.
Following the incident, the student was initially rushed to the Tihidi hospital and then to the District Headquarters Hospital. Later, he was shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. His condition is reported to be critical and he is yet to gain consciousness.
The family members further demanded the administration to take concrete measures so that no other student becomes victim to the ragging menace.
The college authorities were yet to comment on the incident.
