Bhadrak bandh over court shifting total

Published on:

Normal life was affected in Bhadrak town on Saturday due to the 12-hour Bandh observed by lawyers, moharirs, vendors and typists and members of the Bhadrak Chamber of Commerce under the aegis the Milita Kriyanusthan Committee in protest against shifting of the Bhadrak District Court to Nalang, eight kilometres from here.

All Government and private offices, banks, business establishments, school and colleges were closed. Vehicular movements on NH-5 and on city roads were disrupted. A rail rook was also organised for two years on the occasion.

“We will continue resorting cease work till a fresh order is issued to stop shifting of the court. Communication to the new court site is not good and people will suffer a lot if the court is shifted,” said agitators. They alleged that the court shifting decision has been taken at the behest of some unscrupulous politicians, who have land at the proposed site.

The agitators expressed resentment that five MlAs and the lone MP of the District are still silent over their demand.

President Bishnu Mohapatra, Secretary Suryakant Kumar, Umakanta Sahu, Askhya Nayak and Srikanta Tripathy were present.
