Normal life was hit in Bhadrak on Monday as members of the Zilla Unnayan Sangharsh Samiti observed a 12-hour dawn-to dusk bandh in the district demanding establishment of a medical college and hospital.
While schools and colleges and shops and other business establishments remained closed due to the bandh, vehicular movements were disrupted, especially in Bhadrak town.
The agitators blocked the National Highway in the district and also staged ‘Rail Roko’ at the Bhadrak railway station, thereby affecting movement of road vehicles and trains.
However, ambulance and other emergency services were excluded from the ambit of the bandh observance. Till last reports came in, there were no incidents of any violence or untoward situation as the agitators had been asked to observe the bandh peacefully.
