The Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday Bargarh RWSS Project Coordinator Sarat Panigrahi for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs7,000 from Radhakanta Sahu of Cherengamunda villager under the Bijepur police station to process his file for release of Rs87,000 towards project cost of seven latrines.
Sahu had earlier alleged that he had constructed seven latrines under the IHHC Scheme. He had to get Rs84,000. When he requested Panigrahi and Dipti Ranjan Pradhan, District level Consultant, Sanitation and Hygine for processing the file, they demanded Rs7,000.
Accordingly, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Panigrahi red-handed taking Rs7,000 from Sahu. The bribe money of Rs7,000 along with three envelopes having Rs 43,500 were recovered from the possession Panigrahi. Pradhan was on leave on the date of trap.
In another case, Vigilance officers arrested Khordha district’s Siko ARI Kailash Chandra Behera taking bribe of Rs5,000 from Kanhei Parida of Godikila village under the Jankia police station for correction of ROR in his favour.
The officers laid a trap as per the complaint of Parida and caught the ARI red-handed taking bribe from him.
Investigations were in progress in both the cases, an official release informed.
