A man on Friday stabbed his wife and sister-in-law to death in Nileswhara village under the Bargarh Sadar police limits in Bargarh district.

The accused was identified as Narasingh Sahu and the deceased as Sanjukta Sahu (wife) and Janaki (sister-in-law).

According to reports, Narasingh was married to Eka Sahu’s younger daughter Sanjukta five years ago. Sanjukta was allegedly tortured for dowry by her in-laws. When she couldn’t bear it, she moved to her parental house.

Earlier in the morning, Narasingh came to take his wife back from village for the Nuakhai festival. But they ended up with a fight and in a fit of rage he hacked his wife and sister-in-law.

The two women were rushed to the Bargarh hospital under critical condition where doctors declared them dead. Bargarh SDPO started investigating the matter after reaching the hospital.

Sources said the accused also attacked his mother-in-law who sustained the injuries and was rushed to the VIMSAR, earlier VSS Medical College Hospital at Burla in Sambalpur.

Meanwhile, the accused was caught by the locals and thrashed badly, after which he was arrested by the police. Police later sent him to a hospital at Bargarh for treatment.
