The mortal remains of CRPF Jawan Padmalochan Majhi (30), a native of Bargarh district who was killed in a Maoist attack inside the Chintagufa forest in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Monday, were consigned to flames with full State honour on Wednesday.

The body of Majhi was given a Guard of Honour at the Reserve Police line here on Wednesday morning. After this, the body was taken to his native village Bardol on the outskirts of Bargarh town for cremation.

A student of the Rana Pratap High School at Bargarh, Majhi joined the CRPF in 2001 and was posted as a Havildar of the 223 (A) Company of the para-military force.

Majhi is survived by his mother, three sisters and a younger brother Gajendra, who is now working as a Home Guard in Bargarh.

Maoists suddenly attacked Majhi and other CRPF jawans when they were returning from a combing operation to their base camp through the Chintagufa forest. This was Majhi’s third combing operation. A pall of gloom has descended Majhi’s village following his death.
