BG teachers worship Ganesh on streets

After Thursday’s inconclusive meeting between State Government officials and the agitating Block Grant (BG) teachers, the teachers on Friday worshipped lord Ganesh on the streets here.

The teachers worshipped the lord at their dharna site on Mahatma Gandhi Marg amid chanting of mantras and blowing of conches as it is usually done on the occasion of Ganesh Puja.

A teacher said, “The Government has deprived us of celebrating the occasion with our students. We have been staging our protest since August 16 braving inclement weather, but the Government is yet to take any steps to fulfil our demands.”

“We prayed to lord Ganesh that let wisdom prevail on the Government to abolish the Block Grant system and meet our other demands,” he added.

The Odisha School College Teachers’ and Employees’ Joint Forum decided to continue its agitation after their meeting with the Government did not yield any results.

Earlier on Wednesday, the agitating teachers had threatened the State Government to intensify their strike into a State-wide agitation and ensure that the BJD is voted out of power in the 2019 general elections if their demands are not met.
