The Block Grant (BG) teachers and lecturers of Mayurbhanj, who have been on strike for the last many days in support of their demand for full grant-in-aid (GIA), held a day-long hunger strike here on Gandhi Jayanti.
Hundreds of them sat in front of the district collectorate from 6 am to 6 pm and shouted slogans against what they called the Naveen Patnaik Government’s utter indifference towards the teaching community.
Many educationists, writers, political leaders and lawyers joined them and expressed their solidarity with them. Teacher leaders Sangram
Mallik, Chitta Ranjan Palata, Kishor Acharya, Duryodhan Behera, Bharat Chandra Baral, Jayant Mohanta, Mantu Mohanta, Bijay Kumar Pandit and Balaram Das were present.
