The students of Nuapada district have shown better results in the Annual High School Certificate (HSC) Examinations of 2014. The pass rate has increased from 51.38 per cent last year to 89 per cent this year.

A total of 8,273 Regular students had appeared in the examinations, out of which 7,306 have passed. likewise, out of the 1,642 Ex-Regular students, 1,276 have succeeded. This was stated in Press release by the District Education Officer (DEO) on Thursday.

“The increase in performance is due to various efforts taken by the District Education Department to improve the quality of education and performance of students,” said the DEO.

“We had taken a combination of efforts like awareness building of the

teachers, parents and students on examination patterns, remedial coaching for low achievers, practice of sample question, preparation and practice of model question prepared by resource persons, coaching of average achievers at school points, etc.” added the DEO.

The improvement is reflected even in the gradation. While 21 students have passed in Grade A2, 259 have passed in Grade B1 and 1,156 in B2. About 20 per cent have secured above Grade B1, which is equivalent to first class in the previous system of examinations. The pass rate in first class was only 11.44 per cent in 2013.

The DEO said the stakeholders have learnt a lot of lesions from the failure of last year. “The credit will go to the teachers, who have done their best to create a better study environment. The efforts taken to develop capacity of the teachers have resulted in a better environment. We have been harsh on the negligent teachers, but such actions have created a better study environment in the district,” said the DEO.
