The Centre’s girl child security scheme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign would begin in Nayagarh district, which was solely identified for the scheme in the State, from November. To carry out the campaign the district would get Rs1 crore financial assistance from the Centre annually.

This was revealed at a taskforce meeting chaired by Chief Secretary GC Pati at the Secretariat here on Saturday.

“The campaign will start from November onwards. An assessment will be made in March regarding the progress of the programme. Seeing its success the drive may be extended to other districts having lowest girl ratio,” said Nayagarh Additional District Magistrate Rabindra Sahoo, who attended the meeting.

Nayagarh district has recorded less girl child population in the State.

The meeting also focused on 16 other issues, including facility of marriage registration certificate in block and panchayat levels, awareness for woman going outside the State and how the universal marriage registration could be made at the panchayat level.

This apart, the meeting also discussed on basic amenities like toilets for women on highways, bus stops and roadside petrol pumps.

“Discussion was held on the 16 priority actions of Odisha State Policy for Women and Girls-2014.

The department will examine the issues and necessary measures will be taken in this regard,” said Women and Child DEvelopment Department Secretary Vishal Dev.
