BeMC to decentralise services for ease of denizens

The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) is contemplating to decentralise its myriad services soon.  The new system aims to solve the  grievances of taxpayers in time and can deliver the various services right at the doorstep of the taxpayers in a decentralized way, which would hopefully, reduce time and cost, sources said.

To implement the visionary and citizen-friendly service, the BeMC may soon have 42 ward-level offices in all the 42 wards of the BeMC and each ward will be headed by a Ward Officer (WO).

Gandhinagar Senior Citizens’ Forum president and senior scribe Prof KC Panda congratulated the Chief Minister, State Urban Development Ministry,   BeMC Commissioner and Mayor for the move. The BeMC is presumably planning to entrust the task of managing the ward level offices and delivering its services with women SHGs which know people and condition of the wards better at local levels. Sources said that the BeMC, meanwhile,  has reportedly invited expression of interest (EOI) from the SHGs for the purpose since the ‘Ward Offices’ are proposed to be made operational before January 26, 2023.

Every SHG selected for managing the day to day works in a particular ward will be paid Rs 2,000 per month, while a member of the group who will be entrusted with the responsibility of coordinator will be paid Rs 10,000 per month. However, the coordinator is required to be well conversant with all official works and procedures, sources said.
