The Belabhali Suraksha Manch protesting the construction of a bridge over Kusei river has rejected the proposal of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and instead, urged the NHAI to implement the Gopal Mitra expert team report.
The Manch alleged that two teams of experts had visited the site where the bridge construction is proposed to study the feasibility and all other technical and environmental sides of the project. However, while Gopal Mitra report has been suppressed, the report of the other expert team led by Dhrubajyoti Sen is given primacy. The Manch demanded that since the Gopal Mitra report has given due weight to the loss of life and livelihood of the locals, the Government should accept its recommendation with regard to the construction of the bridge.
