'Being targeted for opposing demonetisation'

Reiterating his charge that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is being targeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for opposing demonetisation, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Thursday said he and other arrested TMC leaders would not be released by the CBI soon.

“We are being targeted as Didi (Mamata Banerjee) has been opposing demonetisation. They will not release us,” said Bandyopadhyay while being escorted to the Special CBI Court here after the end of the second phase of his CBI remand in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam.

Bandyopadhyay was sent to the Jharpada Special Jail here after being grilled for ten days in two phases by the CBI.

Besides Bandyopadhyay, another TMC MP, Tapas Paul, has also been arrested by the CBI for his alleged Rose Valley links. Both are now in the Bhubaneswar CBI custody.
