Locals of Begunia in Khordha district have expressed strong resentment over the delay in installation of streetlights in their town due to digging of trenches for expansion of National Highway-53.
On Monday, local traders lodged a complaint with the district Collector
seeking his early intervention to resolve the issue.
“The Begnunia gram panchayat has kept all light equipments and fittings ready for long. Due to ongoing tardy NH expansion works, the lights have not been fitted. As a consequence, accidents are occurring often. The criminals are also taking advantage of darkness and committing loots,” alleged locals.
While Begunia Sarpanch Kumudini Swain said electricity officials have not listened to their requests, the FEDCO SDO said the matter would be resolved in two days’ time.
