Presiding over a high-level meeting held here on Monday, Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra directed all concerned departments to be prepared to start functioning of the Nirvaya Centres for providing support and assistance to the victims of women violence.
Women and Child Development (W&CD) Department Secretary Arati Ahuja outlined various dimensions of the strategy for discussion. It was discussed in principle that the W&CD Department will be the nodal department for management of these centres.
District Collectors have been asked to identify 3,000 sq feet land within their respective District Headquarters Hospital (DHHs) for construction of building for the centre, informed Mohapatra.
He also advised to identify Government building or rented houses within five kilometre distance from the hospital for temporary functioning of the centre.
The meeting also decided that the women victims will be provided clinical, trauma care, psychological counselling, legal assistance and other rehabilitation supports in these centres to ensure that they will not run from one place to another for assistance and support.
Notably, both the State and the Central Government have decided to start functioning of the Nirvaya Centres in all districts soon. There has been a surge in the voilence against women in the recent years.
