Be polite to people: DGP to Bargarh cops

Director General of Police (DGP) BK Sharma has urged police personnel to be polite and suave while handling people visiting police stations.

Sharma on his first field visit after he took over as DGP chose to move to a Maoist Zone, which is the corridor of the Left Wing Extremist (LWE) guerrillas.

Teaching a lesson or two on “Mo Sarkar” initiative launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, DGP Sharma harped on the fact that gone are the days, when police were inducing fear among the people, a practice they imbibed from the colonial rule.

Now the people are the masters and they are to be treated with respect, pointed out the DGP.

And he warned that there will be ‘Zero Tolerance’ to rude behaviour and corruption, which is brining shame to the police force.

Sharma asked to change their perception and treat the people with all gentleness and serving mentality.

Harping on 5Ts, the DGP said there is a need for teamwork and bringing in transparency in the system.

Launching participatory policing, Sharma talked to senior citizens of Bargarh district and urged them to extend their support for participatory protection drive.

The DGP also reviewed the security arrangements for the upcoming Bijepur by-poll scheduled to be held on October 21.

A high-level meeting was held on Thursday at the District Police Headquarters here under the chairmanship of Sharma, where ADG Law and Order RP Koche, DIG, Northern Range Himanshu Kumar Lal, SP Bargarh Padmini Sahoo and other senior top cops were present.

Addressing mediapersons after the review meeting, the DGP informed that the by-polls in Bijepur will be conducted in an impartial and fair manner, as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

The DGP said that the suggestion of the Bargarh SP for the deployment of 30 platoons of armed police forces was being reviewed.

“Apart from OSAP personnel, CRPF, SS Battalion, SOG and DVF personnel will be pressed into service during the by-election. Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed at 15 sensitive spots,” DGP Sharma said.

In order to ensure smooth conduct of Bijepur bypoll, preventive arrest of anti-socials and absconders are being made, the DGP further informed.
