The Cuttack Vigilance arrested former Kendrapada BDO and present Kankadahada BDO in Dhenkanal district Basanta Kumar Mallick in connection with a misappropriation of `8 lakh.
He had misappropriated `3 lakh without executing a cement concrete road from Mallick Sahi to R&B Road in Khairabad village and prepared false bill. Similarly, Mallick also misappropriated `5 lakh in another CC road project under Gulnagar Gram Panchayat of Kendrapara Block and prepared fake documents.
In another case, the Vigilance Bhubaneswar division arrested Odagaon Block Head Clerk Bijay Kumar Giri in Nayagarh district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 500 from complainant Kasinath Pradhan of Karadasasan village under Sarankula police limits in Nayagarh district. He demanded the money to return security deposit `3,000 to Pradhan.
Pradhan as a contractor had executed a stone wall and an approach road to a cremation ground of his village under MPlAD fund and deposited the security amount.
In a related development, Cuttack Drugs Inspector Jagannath Malick was also arrested by Vigilance sleuths while accepting bribe of `18,000. Another staff Srikant Sinha was also held in this connection.
