As the State capital city is going to celebrate the World Environment Day on Wednesday, here is a good initiative by the city civic bodies to compensate the tree loss during Cyclone Fani, which damaged the green cover of the city.
Under the plantation micro plan, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to plant 23,500 saplings at 11 different sites and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to plant 4,250 saplings at 26 locations.
As per the reports, the BDA parks suffered massive tree loss amounting to more than 10,000 and the avenue and open space plantation by the development authority also encountered more than 2,000 trees’ loss. As per the estimation of the BMC, 623 trees were damaged within the 67 wards under its area.
Sources in BDA and BMC, however, added that the new plantations would be wind-resistant varieties.
