Resentment is brewing among the cricket players and cricket lovers of the State after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped six Odisha players of Under-19 squad for the forthcoming east zone Vinoo Mankad Trophy tournament scheduled to begin in Ranchi from October 2.
Sources here informed that the six players have been dropped from the State team after it was found irregularities in their age. “The date of births of these players did not match with the documents submitted by these players during last season,” said a source in the OCA here on Friday.
The players who have been dropped are Suryakant Samal, Harshit Rathod, Khyamasagar Bal, Suraj Singh, Pratyush Mohapatra and Rajesh Mohanty. Sources here said the replacements for these dropped players would be sent soon to join the rest of the team members.
This has come as a huge embarrassment for the OCA as the association here has been dogged in age fudging case since long and this is currently under the CBI scanner.
