The Town Planning (TP) scheme has made significant progress in the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) area. This was known from a high-level review meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Suresh Mahapatra here on Tuesday, wherein BDA Vice-Chairman Sanjay Kumar Singh outlined the issues for discussion.

Mahapatra directed to ensure basic urban amenities in the TP areas by preparing detailed work plans for laying of road, piped water supply, power supply, open space, social infrastructure, sewerage network and drainage management.

It was decided that the Works Department would construct the major roads and the BDA would develop the minor roads. The water supply and sewerage management would be planned by the WATCO. The Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Ltd was directed to prepare the plan for electricity supply from source to the end-user.

BDA VC Singh said the BDA proposes to take up 45 TP schemes along the upcoming capital ring road. Meanwhile, TP scheme Nos-1, 2, 3 and 4 undertaken in the first phase has made substantial progress. After a detailed survey and pulling together of all available land, corrected land record of rights were prepared and distribution started.

The Chief Secretary directed to complete distribution of the corrected RORs to the land owners in two months.

A target was fixed to expedite construction of road works during this season. Besides, the preparatory works for grounding of the TP Nos-5 to 13 are also at an advanced stage.

In total, the four present scheme areas cover around 1,600 acres envisaged to accommodate around 1.50-lakh population with basic urban amenities. About Rs 749 crore would be invested for development of the different infrastructures.

Singh appraised that with the initial investment for development of the infrastructures, the schemes would generate self-supporting revenue.
