A flight service from Bhubaneswar to steel city Rourkela would begin from September this year. An MoU to this effect has been signed between the city airport authorities and the State Government.
The flight service would be launched under the UDAN Scheme, said Bhubaneswar Airport Director R Mahalingam.
The maximum fare would be Rs 2,500. The airstrip modernisation project is underway in Rourkela and it would be completed in next two to three months, he said.
In fact, there is a growing demand for flight operation between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar and Rourkela and Kolkata. If the private aviation companies get subsidy, the flight can be operated from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata via Rourkela, sources at the Bhubaneswar airport said.
Recently, a six-member Central team had visited the Rourkela airstrip and given nod for flight operation to the steel city from the State capital.
