Demands chargesheets be filed soon
Estranged daughter-in-law of former Minister Raghunath Mohanty Barsha Showny Choudhury on Thursday called on some senior officers of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) here and demanded that chargesheets against her in-laws be filed soon.
“Although, I had filed the cases in March last year, chargesheets have not been filed on them yet”, said Choudhury adding that no effort has yet been made to facilitate return of the dowry materials to her.
She had brought dowry torture allegations against her in-laws, including the former Minister. Soon after the allegation surfaced in March last year, the State Government had entrusted the case to HRPC for investigation.
The HRPC sleuths had arrested Choudhury’s husband and his parents on separate days from separate locations. They were released on bails. But the prosecution has not been able to file chargesheets in the case even after ten months of the incident.
She was married to the Minister’s son Rajashree in June 2012 and her family members had given `10 lakh as dowry to the minister’s family, Choudhury had mentioned in her FIR stating that her in-laws were torturing her for more dowry.
