A Class-IX student of the MKC High School here was allegedly mentally harassed by the school headmistress on Friday.

The student Sumit Kumar Sahu’s mother and member of school management committee Sasmita Behera, accused Headmistress Pragyan Paramita Jena of keeling down the boy intentionally during the prayer class. She lodged a complaint at the Baripada Town police station against Jena in this connection.

Sasmita said Jena passed sarcastic remark about the hairstyle of Sumit and punished him in front of others students and school teachers.

Demanding action against the headmistress, Sasmita further said though the State Government has declared schools as punishment-free zones, the act of headmistress caused mental strain to his son. “Sumit was unable to write his answer sheet during the English examination following the incident. Even he told me about taking the extreme step,” she further said.

The headmistress, defending her action, said that to discipline Sumit she asked him to kneel down. Four other students were also punished for violating the school discipline, she added.
