Several citizens’ groups and civil society organisations in Bargarh town including members of Bar Association and Journalists’ Association have opposed the increase in holding tax under Bargarh Municipal limits. The decision taken by Bargarh Municipality to increase tax during the corona pandemic has been sharply criticised in different quarters. On Tuesday, a delegation led by District Bar Association president Shyamsunder Adabar and secretary Harihar Pradhan, District Journalists’ Association representatives Umesh Bishwal, Birendra Pradhan, Deepak Sharma discussed with district Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan and demanded repeal of the tax hike decision. The delegation also included senior lawyers Shirish Ballabh Mishra, Dr Subal Kar, Dillip Sawdia, Sunil Purohit, Lipsit Mishra, Bhavani Sahu and Kamal.
