The daily vegetable market at Barbati alongside the NH-5 has posed a serious traffic problem in the area under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district with hundreds of customers flocking to the place and parking their vehicles on the road while purchasing veggies.
The traders are not paying any heed to repeated warning by the local police to move out to some other place. The locals too demand clearance of the NH near the market by deploying of security forces. Since the market has a huge demand for fresh vegetables coming from Bargarh and Ranchi, people make beelines to purchase the goods, causing traffic jam on the busy highway.
“If the police fail to clear the traffic, chances of serious accidents cannot be averted,” said a concerned local, Ananta Swain. “We will sort out the issue after holding discussions with the market committee,” said Dharmasala police station IIC Sudarshan Dash.
