Barabati gets Test venue status after 21 years

After a gap of 21 long years, the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack has regained Test cricket venue status.

A decision in this regard was taken at the 87th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Behera, who was part of the meeting, said Barabati can now host the longest format of the game.

The stadium had failed to find a place in the list of new Test venues announced by the BCCI in June this year.

The process of Barabati getting the Test venue status had been delayed after the infamous bottle-pelting incident during the T20 International match between India and South Africa last year.

Notably, the Barabati Stadium had hosted two Test matches way back in 1987 between India and Sri lanka and in 1995 between India and New Zealand successfully.
