As per direction of the Chief Minister, Home Secretary Asit Tripathy on Thursday began investigation into the Barabati Stadium bottle hurling incident.

Tripathy told mediapersons at the State Secretariat that he would investigate into the circumstances under which spectators hurled bottles at the ground, halting the India-South Africa T20 cricket match for a while. Suggestions would also be given to the Odisha Cricket Academy (OCA) to avoid such incidents in future, he added.

Meanwhile, Sports Secretary Saswat Mishra said action would be taken on the basis of the report of the Home secretary. The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday registered a case suo motu over the case. Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said the probe would be conducted after examining the CCTV footages.

Notably, the OCA has submitted a report to the BCCI over the bottle hurling issue. The report mentioned that water bottles were allowed to spectators on a humanitarian ground. Out of 45,000 visitors, only 100 unruly spectators hurled bottles at the ground. The OCA further apprised the BCCI that it would take steps to prevent such activities in future and follow ICC guidelines strictly.
