Bankers' strike in Mayurbhanj: Customers suffer, ATMs run dry

Published on:

The two-day nation-wide strike had its impact on Mayurbhanj district with all the public sector banks remaining closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Customers faced a lot of hardship. Their woes still worsened as most of the ATMs ran dry without cash.

At the district headquarters town of Baripada, the bank employees resorted to demonstrations. A large number of bankers, under the leadership of Anil Kumar Pradhan, Pradeep Panigrahi, Ganesh Prasad Mohaptatra, Bhavani Shankar Samal and Ravindra Nath Sahu, held a meeting in front of the local SBI main branch and also organised a bike rally in the town. However, the fact that the 14 branches of the Mayurbhanj Central Cooperative Bank in the district continued their normal functioning came as a little respite, particularly to those having their deposits in these bank branches.
