Bank looted of Rs15l, gold at Sundargarh

In broad daylight on Thursday afternoon, five armed miscreants looted about Rs15 lakh from the Sundargarh Branch of the Indian Bank at Sundargarh.

The miscreants also looted away gold ornaments and the CCTV recorder from the bank.

Being informed, Sundargarh SP along with other police officers rushed to bank and started investigation.

Sources said six miscreants reached the Indian Bank, which has no security guard, located at the Hospital Road in the Mission Square area in a Bolero by around 2.30 am. While one sat on the driver seat of the vehicle, five others with arms entered into the bank and soon brandished pistols at Branch Manager Jasinta Kerketta, her four staffs and two cutomers.

Then they took them all to the strong room from which they took away hard cash of Rs 15 lakh and gold ornaments. While leaving the bank premises, they too took away the CCTV recorder and mobile phones from staffs.

The miscreants were talking in Hindi, according to some eyewitnesses. Police have started a manhunt to nab the culprits. They suspect that the miscreants might have fled either towards Jharsuguda or to Rourkela.

“We have already started an investigation to nab the miscreants who have looted the bank,” said SP R Prakash.
