The Bharat Bandh on Monday called by the Congress was peaceful in Nuapada district.
The strike was led by PCC member Adhiraj Panigrahi at Khariar town and at Nuapada, DCC president Ghasiram Majhi led it.
Shops, Government offices, banking and educational institutions across the district remained completely closed. Plying of busses as well as all other public and private vehicles was also stopped. However, vegetable markets were opened.
“Fuel prices are skyrocketing, but the BJP led NDA Government is not concerned. Neither is the State Government here, which is reluctant to reduce its taxes to give relief to the people. People of Nuapada district, including the business class and Government officials, have supported our bandh call. That’s why, it remained peaceful,” opined Panigrahi.
The support extended by the people of the district to the bandh reveals their resentment against the Governments at the Centre and the State, he added.
