The district of Mayurbhanj had a near-total response to the Congress-called Bharat Bandh to protest against the excessive hike of fuel prices.
Throughout the district, vehicles were off the roads and shops and other business establishments remained closed. Essential services were not affected as they were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
All the major towns of the district including Baripada, Rairangpur, Karanjia and Udala looked deserted from dawn to dusk. The bandh was by and large peaceful. Some other political parties like JMM, CPI and CPI M) extended support to the bandh here.
