Bandh in Puri total, incident-free

Published on:

The Puri bandh was total and there was no violence in the town and suburban areas.Early on Friday morning, the Congress activists squatted on the railway track at the Puri railway station for some time. The bus service was stopped; even private four wheelers were off the road.Commercial markets and traders closed their business for the day. The District Judge Court, Government offices, schools, colleges and municipality office remain closed. Trains were delayed by hours while some Puri-bound trains were cancelled byn the authorities. For the Congress activists at Puri, gathering solidarity was easy as the residents had already expressed their discontentment against the concerned authorities over the Brahma Paribartan fiasco. Earlier in response to a bandh call by the Puri Bar Association, they had spontaneously participated.
