A nine-metre-long unsafe bamboo bridge at Kalarangiata village under Sukinda block of Jajpur district is the reason behind the dropout of students of the village as many kids are afraid of to step their foots on this rickety bridge.
“During the last election, sundry political leaders assured us to build a pucca bridge in the Damasala canal. But they failed to keep their promise; as a result, education takes a backseat in the remote village as many children abandon education,” said Akhila Munda of Kalarangiata village. He added that last Monday, a student suffered injuries as he fell down from the bridge.
Many students are going to the school by risking their lives. Recently, we demanded before the Collector to build a pucca bridge in our village and the official assured us to fulfill our demands, said Mayadhar Tika a villager.
When contacted, Jajpur Collector Ranjan Das said, “We have recently grantedRs30 lakh to Sukinda block from the District Mineral Fund to build a bridge at Kalarangiata.”
