The Proof Road Suraksha Manch, a civil society forum demanding a probe into a scam in the construction of the Proof Road connecting the district headquarters town with the defence establishment at Chandipur, on Thursday staged a picketing. Vehicular traffic on the Proof Road was disrupted for several hours.
The picketing began at 6 am at Partapada square and was withdrawn at around 11 am following talks with the defence authorities in presence of the district Collector.
“Discussions were held with the Director of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur and other senior officials of the Defence. They were urged to repair the road and complete the left out portion work of the road before Dussehra,” said district Collector Sanatan Mallick.
The Manch alleged poor quality work during renovation of the road executed by the Military Engineering Service (MES).
“The road work is still to be completed. It has been stopped due to rains. The damaged portion would be repaired and incomplete patches would be completed,” said senior scientist and ITR Group Director Niladri Roy.
Due to the road block, the defence establishment was affected. The employees could not reach office on time. Also, those who wanted to go to Chandipur beach and Balramgadi fishing base too suffered a jolt.
The 4.5km-road from Station Square to Patrapada got damaged within month of its construction due to inferior quality of works. The Manch activists demanded a CBI probe into the issue.
